Mexican-style pulled pork that’s juicy inside and crispy outside. Perfect for tacos, burritos, or nachos.
Ingredients
- 1.5kg pork shoulder, cut into large chunks
- 1 onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic, whole
- Juice of 2 oranges
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper
Method
- Season the pork generously with cumin, oregano, chilli, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place onion and garlic in the slow cooker, then the pork on top.
- Pour over the orange and lime juice.
- Cook on Low for 8-10 hours until the pork falls apart.
- Shred with forks. Spread on a baking tray and grill for 5 minutes until crispy on the edges.
- Serve in tacos with salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.
Tips
The grilling step is what makes carnitas special — it crisps up the edges while the inside stays juicy.
