Soft, cinnamon-spiced apples under a crunchy golden crumble topping. Proper British pudding.

Ingredients

  • 6 Bramley apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 80g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • For the crumble:
  • 200g plain flour
  • 100g cold butter, cubed
  • 80g demerara sugar
  • 50g porridge oats

Method

  1. Toss the apples with the caster sugar and cinnamon. Place in the slow cooker.
  2. Make the crumble: rub the flour and butter together until it resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in the demerara sugar and oats.
  3. Sprinkle the crumble over the apples.
  4. Place a tea towel under the lid (to catch condensation and keep the topping drier).
  5. Cook on High for 2-3 hours.
  6. Serve with custard, cream, or ice cream.

Tips

The tea towel trick stops condensation dripping onto the crumble and keeps it crisper. Pop under the grill for 2 minutes if you want it extra crunchy.
